On November 21, 2011, the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach honored six local public school educators as the Rotary Club’s Teacher of the Year. Each teacher was presented a plaque by the Club President, Gary Bradham, and a $500 grant for use in their teaching program for the 2012 School Year.
Mary Ellen Greene, Past Board of Education and Club member, was the Chairperson for this year’s annual club event. Mary Ellen spoke on the virtues and demands of teaching and highlighted the successes of each educator.
This year’s Myrtle Beach Educator Superstars were Mary Rooney from the Primary School; Katie Starn representing the Elementary School; Paul Carboni from the Intermediate School; Patrice Brown representing the Middle School; Jamie Franklin from the High School; and Bucky Sellers representing the Academy of Arts and Science. The superstars were selected from among their peers with input from the school’s Principal and many of the students of the educator.
The Rotary Club’s membership was impressed with the dedication, innovation, and drive of each of the teachers representing their specific schools this year. They were also impressed by the fact the students all commented on how each of the teachers had made a difference in their lives and the quality of their education.
